Kerala 2023 // Part I

Hier ein paar Eindrücke aus Kerala. Seit Januar befinde ich mich hier zur Feldforschung für meine Doktorarbeit. Covid-bedingt war der geplante Forschungsaufenthalt Jahr um Jahr verschoben worden, aber nun ist es endlich soweit. Neben Interviews u.a. mit Rückkehrerinnen betreibe ich hier Netzwerkforschung im Pflegesektor und innerhalb der Kirchenstrukturen der hiesigen Ostkirchen. Zwar ist mir Kerala schon Zeit meines Lebens vertraut, aber es macht mir wahnsinnigen Spaß mich dem Land über diese professionelle Perspektive anzunähern und Kerala als sogenanntes "God's own Country" für mich auf diese Weise neu zu entdecken. 

Ich bin viel auf Achse, vor allem mit dem Bus, was hier nicht ganz unanstrengend ist. Aber es überwiegt das Positive. Eine tolle Begegnung jagt die nächste Begegnung, das nächste inspirierende Gespräch. Es sind so viele Eindrücke und Informationen, dass es kaum in Worte zu fassen ist. Doch für diejenigen, die sich ein Bild machen wollen: Dank meines Freundes Joni habe ich eine tolle Kamera dabei, die ich kräftig nutze. Entstanden sind die Bilder in Kochi, Ernakulam, Palai, Thrissur, Trivandrum, Kottarakkara, Kottayam, Alleypey und irgendwo im nirgendwo dazwischen...

Hear some impressions from Kerala. I arrived in January in order to conduct field research for my PhD thesis. Due to Covid, the planned research stay had been postponed year after year, but now its finally happening. Besides interviews with returnees, I am doing network research within the care sector and within the church structures of the local eastern christianity. Although I have been familiar with Kerala all my life, I am having a lot of fun approaching the country from this professional perspective and rediscovering Kerala as a so-called "God's own Country"  in this way. 

I'm hitting the road a lot, especially by using busses, which is not entirely unstrenuous here. But one great encounter chases the next encounter, the next inspiring conversation. There are so many impressions and information passing through me - its hard to put these experiences into words. Thanks to my friend Joni I have a great camera with me, which accompanies me all day long. The shown pictures were taken in Kochi, Ernakulam, Palai, Thrissur, Trivandrum, Kottarakkara, Kottayam, Alleypey and somewhere in the nowhere in between...
